CLIPP at the University of Chile
December 29, 2025
The awarding of the second stage of the Frontier University R&D&I Structural Financing Program (FIUF) allows the University of Chile to move forward with the implementation of the ICAI Platform, which identifies seven gaps in the UCh R&D&I ecosystem. Within this framework, CLIPP addresses the sixth gap, associated with innovation mechanisms, with the aim of contributing to the streamlining of knowledge and technology transfer processes.
Within this framework, the University developed a strategic assessment that identified seven priority gaps to strengthen its capacity for research, innovation, and engagement with the country's challenges. These gaps cover areas such as governance, advanced training, collaboration, engagement with the environment, and innovation mechanisms.
In the latter area, the assessment recognizes significant progress—such as a developing innovation ecosystem and a sustained increase in intellectual property protection—but also identifies a pending structural challenge: streamlining transfer processes so that the knowledge generated by the University is translated in a timely manner into public, social, and territorial impact.
It is precisely in this gap that the Colaboratorio de Innovación con Propósito Público (CLIPP) comes into play. Its role is to provide a priority dimension at the institutional level, accelerating a new model of transfer with a public purpose that connects cutting-edge research with co-creation, implementation, and decision-making alongside regional governments, communities, and productive sectors.
In this way, CLIPP complements the ICAI Platform, strengthening the University of Chile's capacity to transform knowledge into concrete solutions for the country's challenges.
